“Fear not the fall, but the life that comes from having never leaped at all.” I smile through my tears. “I’ll always leap if the jump leads me to you, Noah Riley. Always.” “And forever.” “I swear.”

The hype surrounding this book was completely justified. It did not disappoint in the slightest. I was crying, kicking my feet, blushing, and even throwing my book against the wall at certain points! I love when a book evokes so many emotions, and this one did that and more. The characters were so well-developed and relatable, and the plot was both heartwarming and heartbreaking. I couldn’t put it down!

Summary of Say you swear by Meagan Brandy

A College Romance…

For years, I’ve dreamt of what college life could bring and while some things changed, there was always one constant.

It didn’t matter how wild I allowed my imagination to run, it always led me to the same place in the end.

It led me to him.

My future was clear, and he was it.

Until suddenly … he wasn’t.

Now I’m a shell of who I was, on a path too blurry to follow, and I see no way out.

No way up.

They say first loves last forever.

That’s exactly what I’m afraid of.

Review of Say you swear by Meagan Brandy

Say you swear was an emotional rollercoaster, and I’m not afraid to admit it had me in tears more than once. It made me feel everything—love, pain, heartbreak, longing, and inner turmoil. The story was breathtakingly beautiful, lifting me up only to break me apart in the most profound way.

Plot Analysis of Say you swear by Meagan Brandy

Arianna “Ari” Johnson, her twin brother Mason, best friend Cameron, and their friends Brady and Chase decide to spend the last days of summer at their beach house before heading off to their first semester at Avix College. During the stay, Ari confesses her feelings for Chase, the man she’s loved for years, but after a moment between them one night, Chase pulls away, leaving her heartbroken.

At college, Ari distances herself from her tight-knit group. She starts spending more time with Noah Riley. He teaches her to cook, talks to her, and truly gets to know her. Noah is an amazing guy: the quarter back of the football team, a devoted son, and all around good person. You can’t help but root for him. He’s not pushy with Ari, understanding that she has feelings for someone else she’s trying to move on from, and he takes his time with her.

Characters of Say you swear by Meagan Brandy

Ariana Johnson : She is a wonderfully relatable heroine, with her imperfections making her even more compelling. Her internal struggle, torn between holding onto the glimmer of hope and the painful need to move forward from unrequited love, truly struck a chord with me. Her vulnerability and emotional depth invite readers to connect with her on a personal level, making her journey feel intimate and real. However, this story is about much more than just love; it’s a profound exploration of personal growth and self-discovery. Arianna’s path is filled with challenges, and her journey toward healing and finding herself is both inspiring and heartbreaking at times.

Noah Riley : He is the quintessential dream boyfriend. I couldn’t love him more – my heart was overflowing with tenderness for him once I truly understood him. The swooning, the sexiness, his thoughtfulness, and patience. He’s the kind of beautiful soul that breaks your heart with its preciousness. He’s not at all what you’d expect based on his initial appearance. Our hero here has a sincerity that’s almost unbelievable in its authenticity – he’s just that great. Passion, loyalty, insecurities, and longing – this is a man whose love is truly special. So much more than we realize.

Chase : He is the worst. I absolutely hate him. How can someone be so blind and stupid? He’s so oblivious, it’s infuriating. He’s the reason I can’t give this book a perfect rating because he kept coming back and causing trouble. I wanted to punch him so badly! He’s the biggest red flag I’ve ever seen in a book, and definitely not in a good way. He’s the type of guy your parents warn you about. I could write an entire essay about how much I despise him.

Ari & Noah : Their relationship is one of the best I’ve read. It’s incredibly wholesome and heartwarming. Of course, there are realistic complications as the plot unfolds. One of my favorite phrases is ‘to be loved is to be known,’ and they know each other so deeply that it’s clear this phrase rings true. It’s effortless to feel their unconditional love for each other through the words on the page.

Pacing & writing style

The writing in Say you swear is emotionally charged and deeply immersive, drawing you in with vivid descriptions and heartfelt dialogue. Brandy has a talent for creating raw, intense emotions that feel authentic, making it easy to connect with the characters’ experiences. Her prose strikes a balance between poetic and straightforward, capturing the intensity of love, heartache, and personal growth without becoming overly dramatic.

As for the pacing, the book is carefully crafted to build anticipation and tension. The plot unfolds in a way that keeps you hooked, blending slower, introspective moments with bursts of action and romantic tension. The pacing allows for deeper character development, giving you time to understand and feel for the main characters while maintaining a steady forward momentum.

Some quotes I enjoyed

“If she isn’t mine in the end, I’ll still be hers.”

“I’m a smart man, Juliet,” he whispers, his gaze dropping to my lips. “Only a fool would let you go once they had you where they wanted you.”

“Falling in love with me didn’t mean she fell out of love with him. It meant she loved us both. I want her to love me more.”

“Baby, you beat out every woman everywhere, even in your sleep.”

“Nothing, and I mean nothing, forces a man to face his feelings for a woman… than the interest of another man.”

“That was part of the beauty of us. Her pain was mine as mine was hers. We never needed words to know the other was hurting… but she doesn’t remember that.”

“Loss forces you to recognize who you can’t live without, who you refuse to lose. Loss makes you reckless because loss? It sets you free.”

Final Thought

Say You Swear is one of the few books that has actually made me cry, not just tear up. The love between these characters is indescribable, unlike anything I’ve ever read. It’s in every word, every feeling, every page. They are soulmates, proving time and again that their love is unwavering. My heart is so full right now. I’m sad the book is over and that I’ll never be able to experience it for the first time again.

However, the first 20% was a bit slow, and I thought it might be an average read. However, the pace picked up, the characters’ intentions became clearer, and I became invested. Around 70%, I was completely shocked and confused. My anxiety skyrocketed during the final quarter, and I’m so glad the book ended the way it did.
