“You intoxicate me, Daisy. The scent of flowers lingers on you everywhere you go, and I always want to follow.”
Reading Picking Daisies on Sundays was like basking in the warm sunlight on a perfect spring day. The story has a cozy, wholesome atmosphere that’s both lovely and enchanting. It reminded me of the classic rom-coms I grew up watching, filled with heartwarming moments and characters you can’t help but root for. If you’re a hopeless romantic looking for a love story that’s larger than life, this book is a must-read.
Summary of Picking daisies on Sundays by Liana Cincotti
Perfect for fans of Lynn Painter and Jenny Han, this romantic comedy follows a hopeless romantic finishing college who agrees to embark on a fake relationship with her childhood best friend, who, unfortunately for her, also happens to be her first love.
Daniella Daisy Maria wanted love. It’s all she hoped for when watching endless rom-coms every Friday night. What she hadn’t hoped for was to find it in her childhood best friend Levi. It was the hand-trembling, heart-thumping kind of love that wasn’t supposed to happen when you saw your best friend. But it all ended when he didn’t feel the same way and she vowed to never see him again.
Four years later and one night in a crowded bar in the West Village, there he was, just as perfect as ever. Maybe it was the lighting or the way his hair curled above his brow, but she couldn’t say no when he asked her to be his fake girlfriend for his sister’s wedding. Another chance at being his friend and mending her immature mistake? How was she supposed to say no?
The weight of possible rejection from her dream grad school quickly became the least of her problems. With old, resurfacing feelings at every staged, romantic interaction and stolen glance, she struggles to find confidence. She couldn’t help but think that maybe she should’ve said no to protect her heart for a second time.
Review of Picking daisies on Sundays by Liana Cincotti
They say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but I couldn’t resist the temptation with this one. The cover is absolutely stunning. I went into it blind and was pleasantly surprised to find a sweet and fluffy romance. It’s the perfect lighthearted read for anyone looking for a quick escape.
Plot Analysis of Picking daisies on Sundays by Liana Cincotti
Daniella Daisy and Levi became inseparable after bonding over the shared heartache of losing their fathers, creating a profound and unbreakable friendship that only grew stronger over time. However, they faced a difficult moment when Daniella confessed her feelings for Levi, only to be gently turned down. The rejection created an unspoken tension between them, and the years passed with little contact. Now, four years later, fate brings Daniella and Levi back into each other’s lives when Levi unexpectedly asks her to pretend to be his girlfriend for his sister’s upcoming wedding.
Characters of Picking daisies on Sundays by Liana Cincotti
Daniella Daisy Maria: I’m not going to sugarcoat it: I’m not a huge fan of our female lead. She’s got a quirky charm, but she’s socially awkward and lacks self-confidence. It’s odd to see a fashion major wearing such ill-fitting clothes. Plus, she has trouble articulating her thoughts, often getting lost in her own doubts.
Levi Coldwell : WHAT A MAN. Honestly, words can’t capture how much I love Levi. He’s tall, stylish, wears glasses, blushes easily, and is just… perfect. Beyond that, he’s sweet, family-oriented 🥹, protective, and romantic. Oh, and he wrote a whole French poetry book for Dani! I’m sobbing because he’s not real, and the way he loves Dani raised my standards to a whole new level.
Daisy & Levi : Unsurprisingly, the miscommunication trope was a major plot point in this book, and it was quite prominent. It seems like effective communication is a challenge in these stories, which can be frustrating. I also believe a dual POV would have been beneficial, as I was eager to see Levi’s perspective and was growing tired of Daisy’s. Aside from that, the story was sweet and felt genuine; their love seemed to go beyond physical attraction.
Pacing & writing style
This indie novel Picking daisies on sundays is a hidden gem. The author’s writing is incredibly poetic, with lines that are simply breathtaking. It’s some of the most romantic prose I’ve ever read. The quotes I’m about to share will likely make you swoon, and if they don’t, I have to question your heart. Given that the male lead writes an entire poetry collection, it all makes perfect sense. And as a bonus, the author designed the cover herself! Talk about talent. This novel is a must-read for anyone who appreciates beautiful language and a captivating love story.

Some quotes I enjoyed
“You’re spring, baby. You’re more radiant than flowers and the sun and no one can take that away from you.”
“Do you hear that? That’s my heart knocking against my chest at the sight of you / I’ve never heard anything more terrifying / how could you provide me air and suffocate me at the same time?”
“Don’t worry if the flowers pass, I’ll be right there to plant you more. And when the soil grows old, I’ll comfort it in the chaos of the storm.”
“ It was as if the moon followed him everywhere he went simply because he was more beautiful than the sun.”
“She lives in between the pinks and yellows of the world- where a beautiful color is unknowing to others- and when she speaks, I become a bee enthralled in a field of daisies.”
Final Thought
This book was a whirlwind of emotions, leaving me both captivated and frustrated. There were moments when I was completely engrossed, unable to put it down. However, there were also times when I felt incredibly frustrated and wanted to throw the book across the room.
One of my biggest issues was the portrayal of the female protagonist, Dani/Daisy. Her constant self-doubt and self-sabotage were incredibly annoying. It’s time for authors to stop portraying female characters in such a negative light. And as a fashion major, shouldn’t she have a better sense of style? It felt like the book was contradicting itself.
I’m also so tired of the miscommunication trope. It’s a lazy plot device that’s been used to death. Just have the characters talk to each other! It’s not that difficult to be an adult about things.
However, Picking daisies on sundays was such a sweet and comforting read. It felt like a warm hug for my soul, exactly what I needed right now. The story itself was simple, but the overall atmosphere was what truly captivated me.
