“Yesterday, Julian called me crazy when I told him I had decided to fly to London after all, but I corrected him and said, “No. I’m in love.”
Lauren Asher’s reputation for crafting billionaire romance and character-driven storytelling shines in her latest book “Love unwritten“. She expertly weaves together the complex personalities of Ellie and Rafa, creating a captivating and relatable dynamic. Their personal baggage adds an extra layer of depth to their relationship, making it even more intriguing.
Summary of Love unwrittern by Lauren Asher
Rafael
Ellie Sinclair is a hopeless romantic who writes love songs.
I’m a struggling workaholic who could inspire a hundred breakup albums.
On paper, we have nothing in common except for my son.
For eight months, I avoid her until our summer trip.
Fourteen days. Two islands. And one nanny I shouldn’t be attracted to.
Spending time with Ellie is expected, but enjoying her company?
That isn’t part of our travel plans.
After my divorce, I swore to protect my heart at all costs.
Even if it means breaking hers in the process.
Ellie
What’s worse than working for a grumpy single dad?
Admitting that I once had a secret crush on him in high school.
Thankfully, Rafael Lopez and I have changed since we graduated from Wisteria High.
He is a billionaire with a company to run and a child to take care of.
I’m an unemployed songwriter he hired to watch his son and teach music.
We coexist without any issues until a vacation changes everything.
Lines blur and old feelings for Rafael return with vengeance as I face a new dilemma.
Being his son’s nanny is one thing, but wishing for more?
Sounds like a heartbreak song waiting to be written.
Review of Love unwritten by Lauren Asher
Lauren Asher is one of my favorite authors, and I absolutely loved the first book in the Lakefront Billionaires series. I was eagerly anticipating this sequel and was hooked from the very first page. The story was intriguing, and I couldn’t wait to see how it would unfold. However, the length of the book was a bit of a let-down for me.
Plot of Love unwritten by Lauren Asher
This heartwarming single-dad romance, set in the charming town of Lake Wisteria, is the second installment in the Lakefront Billionaire series. While it’s a lighthearted rom-com, the book tackles serious issues such as anxiety, trust issues, self-harm, and depression with sensitivity and depth. Lauren Asher’s handling of these themes is truly commendable, and I thoroughly enjoyed the story. My only minor criticism is that the book might have been a bit too long for my taste. However, this shouldn’t deter you from experiencing this wonderful tale.
After being betrayed by her best friend, Ellie returns to her hometown and takes a job as a nanny for Nico, a young boy with retinitis pigmentosa. Their shared love for music quickly creates a special bond between them.
Rafael, still grappling with the pain of his ex-wife’s betrayal, is focused on being the best father he can be for Nico. Despite his heartbreak and insecurities, he is determined to give his son a happy and fulfilling life.
For eight months, Ellie and Rafael have kept their distance from each other. However, when Nico invites Ellie to join them on a summer vacation to Hawaii, their paths inevitably intersect. As they spend more time together, their undeniable chemistry becomes harder to resist.
Characters in Love unwritten by Lauren Asher
Ellie Sinclair : She was a pleasant character, but her music/songwriter aspect felt a bit underdeveloped. It was heartbreaking to read about her past struggles, but I was incredibly inspired by her resilience. She refused to let the past define her and bravely pursued her dreams. Despite her insecurities, she found the strength to grow and thrive with the support of those around her.
Rafael Lopez : Rafael was a complex and deeply flawed character, consumed by hatred, demons, and the wounds of his past. His raw honesty in admitting these dark aspects of himself was both shocking and compelling. It was this unflinching self-awareness that made him such a standout character. Rafael’s journey of redemption, driven by his love for Ellie, was a classic tale of a man falling head over heels. His transformation was remarkably well-executed.
Ellie & Rafeal : The slow-burn romance between Ellie and Rafael was captivating to watch. As they gradually revealed their vulnerabilities, their initial hesitancy and doubt gave way to an irresistible attraction. Their journey, filled with both ups and downs, was a beautiful testament to the power of love.
Nicolas Lopez : He was a pure-hearted and adorable child who wore his emotions on his sleeve. He deserved all the love and support he received as he navigated his challenging condition, retinitis pigmentosa. His meddling antics were often hilarious, but it was clear that he had a kind and caring heart.
Pacing & writing style
While I appreciated the writing style and character development, I found the length and pacing of the book to be a challenge. The heavy emotional topics, while well-handled, felt overwhelming at times.
I enjoyed the character growth and the heartwarming found family aspect, which added a relatable and endearing element to the small-town romance. However, the abundance of emotional content and the length of the story made it a demanding read.
What disappointed me most about the book was its length. Around the 60% mark, the slow pacing began to lose my interest. When Ellie and Rafa finally connected, I didn’t feel the emotional impact I was hoping for. While I understand the slow-burn nature of the story, it felt a bit drawn out for me. However, this could be just a matter of personal taste, and I don’t want to diminish the book’s overall quality. It’s natural for different stories to resonate differently with each reader, and that’s perfectly okay.

Final Thought
While I enjoyed Love Unwritten, it didn’t quite reach the same level as Love Redesigned. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It took me a few days to finish, but the pages seemed to fly by. The writing was engaging, and I had a wonderful time reading it.
I found myself captivated by the cute moments, but as I progressed, something felt lacking. The story was beautiful, but I couldn’t pinpoint what was missing. It felt like there was a certain spark that was missing.
