“My soul is your soul. My heart is your heart. My blood is your blood. Eternally.”

I really enjoyed reading Enchantra by Kaylie Smith! Honestly, I can’t even decide if I liked this one more than the first book in the series, but either way, both were such a fun ride. So, just like book one, it’s a solid 4-star read for me.

With The Wicked Games series by Kaylie Smith, I think I’m honestly developing a taste for light horror, who even am I? 😅 As someone who’s usually way too anxious for thrillers or anything remotely scary, this is a big deal. But it turns out, when horror is served in a “light” and fantasy-wrapped package, I can actually stomach it… and dare I say, enjoy it! 😄

Summary of Enchantra by Kaylie Smith

Ready or not, the game has begun.

Genevieve Grimm has felt adrift ever since her sister became the head of the family. So when a mysterious friend of their mother’s invites her to Italy, she accepts. She arrives at his grand palace, expecting passion and magic, decadence and luxury… perhaps even a midnight ball.

She doesn’t expect the owner’s ruthlessly handsome son to slam the door in her face. Rowin Silver is tall, dark, and exceptionally rude, and invitation or not, he demands Genevieve leave and never come back. But Genevieve follows nobody’s orders, especially those of arrogant rich boys. She slips inside—and immediately discovers her mistake.

Rowin and his family are caught in an insidious game of hide and seek, where only one can win. The rest will be trapped in Hell… until the competition begins again.

Genevieve must either join the hunt or forfeit any hope of escaping. But to her dismay, her best chance of survival lies with Rowin. Since lovers may play as a pair, Rowin and Genevieve agree to form an alliance under the guise of a fake courtship. However, as they race through the game’s elaborate labyrinth, trapped among gleaming gold and shining marble, their loathing gives way to irresistible attraction. Only Rowin is keeping secrets, especially when it comes to his ruthless family, and Genevieve can’t help but wonder if she’s trapped in two treacherous games: Enchantra and the one Rowin is playing with her heart.

Review of Enchantra by Kaylie Smith

I really enjoyed reading Enchantra! What stood out the most for me was the family dynamic, it felt so rich, emotional, and real. And Vivi? Her character was an absolute chef’s kiss 👏 I adored her from start to finish. So let’s dive into the review and talk about what made this such a fun and solid read!

Plot Analysis of Enchantra by Kaylie Smith

Genevieve Grimm has been feeling a little lost ever since her sister stepped up as head of their family after their mother’s death.

What she didn’t sign up for was the brooding, annoyingly gorgeous Rowin Silver slamming the door in her face. Literally. 🙄 He says she doesn’t belong there. She says… watch me. So, of course, she sneaks in.

And that’s when things get wild.

Turns out this palace is hosting a twisted magical game with real stakes, like hellish, no-way-out kind of stakes. To stay alive (and maybe win), Genevieve has to play. Her best shot? Teaming up with none other than Mr. Tall-Dark-and-Rude himself. Cue the fake dating, reluctant alliance, and a lot of tension that starts to feel a little too real.

But Rowin’s keeping secrets, and in a game where everything’s on the line… Genevieve might just be playing two dangerous games: Enchantra, and the one Rowin’s got going with her heart.

Characters of Enchantra by Kaylie Smith

Geneveive Grimm : Yesss! Vivi was such a vibe. 🔥 She really came in with that chaotic, confident energy and said “main character” like she meant it. I loved how unapologetically bold and reckless she was—zero damsel energy, all sass and wild decisions, and honestly? I was living for every second of it. 😍

It’s so refreshing to have a fantasy heroine who doesn’t play by the usual rules. She wasn’t soft or self-sacrificing, she was messy, unpredictable, and gloriously unfiltered. Like, did I question her decisions sometimes? Absolutely. But did I also want to cheer her on with popcorn in hand? 1000% 😂

We need more chaotic fantasy girls who cause a scene, burn the rulebook, and still manage to steal our hearts. Honestly, if Vivi had her own spinoff, I’d be first in line. Would you read a whole book just about her being unhinged and fabulous?

Rowington Silver : Now Rowington… sigh this man is the blueprint. 😮‍💨 He’s your classic fantasy MMC: all broody stares, razor-sharp one-liners, and enough emotional walls to build his own cursed castle. But the second she walks into his life? Suddenly, he’s all soft glances and quiet protectiveness, and I was like, sir, I am not okay.

He’s 100% the “touch her and die” type, but with just enough hidden sweetness to completely wreck you emotionally. Like, he’ll threaten a room full of demons without blinking… and then turn around and tuck a strand of hair behind her ear like it’s nothing??? Rude.

Basically, Rowin had me kicking my feet and yelling at him at the same time.

The romance: Genevieve and Rowin’s romance? I ate it up. From their first meet, the tension was there—sharp looks, snappy comments, all that enemies-to-lovers goodness simmering just beneath the surface. The slow burn? Painfully good. The angst? Delicious. The emotional constipation? Iconic 😂

It took its time to build, and when it finally hits? Oof. The slow burn, the “ugh I hate you but also I’m lowkey obsessed with you,” the mutual pining while trying to stay alive, chef’s kiss.

The enemies-to-lovers was so well executed, I practically inhaled it. Honestly, give me ten more books with this exact vibe. I’d read every single one.

Pacing & writing style

Overall, I really enjoyed Kaylie Smith’s writing in Enchantra. It’s smooth and easy to follow, even for a fantasy book, which can sometimes get overwhelming. She does such a good job weaving in light horror and gore elements without it ever feeling too intense. As someone who’s a bit anxious, I really appreciated that! 😅

My only small gripe is that sometimes her writing gets a little too descriptive. Like, there were moments where I felt she spent a lot of words describing something that didn’t really need all that detail. I don’t know how else to explain it, but I hope that makes sense.

That said, the world-building? Absolutely on point. I usually struggle to picture fantasy settings, but this one was so well written and vivid, it honestly felt like a movie playing in my head. The aesthetic was immaculate. The masquerade scene? Top tier. And don’t even get me started on the outfits… I was LIVING for the fashion. 👑

The pacing in Enchantra by Kaylie Smith was really solid, I was flying through the pages and loving every second. I absolutely ate up the Hunt; it was fast-paced, smooth, and had me fully hooked. The only thing that felt a bit rushed was the ending. I would’ve loved just a little more time to wrap everything up properly. But overall, it was a fun and enjoyable ride!

Some quotes I enjoyed

“For the brave souls who burned the bridges between themselves and their demons. And for those still trying to light the match—we’ll wait for you.”

“Love. Loathing. Same passion, different names,” he told her. “And how easily and swiftly the line can be blurred, don’t you think?”

“Can’t I marry one of the others instead?” she suggested.“No,” Rowin stated.“This was my idea. Therefore, you’re mine. If anyone is winning freedom from the Hunt, it’s me.”

High rewards are bred from high risks.

“And I won’t be showing you any mercy if you lay a finger on my wife.”

“You were right.”

“About what in particular?”

“You aren’t anything I’ve ever seen before,” he said gruffly. “You’re spectacular.”

“The light isn’t something you need to chase, Geneveive. The light is wherever you are,”

“I’m creature of Hell, worshipping is not usually in my nature.” Then he lowered himself between her legs and flicked is his tongue out to taste her. “But for whatever time you remain in my bed, I will make it your shrine.”

“You want me on my knees, Trouble? Then I’ll get on my kness.”

“It’s never easy to realize that the people who are supposed to protect us are the ones who can create the deepest scars.”

“Hey, Rowin?”

“Yes, Trouble.”

“The light is wherever you are.”

“You’re such a self-centered bastard. Truth. I deserve to be the center of my own story. Truth. I was not made for you. Lie.”

“I was not made for you,”

“Then maybe I was made for you,”

“Shadows can only be seen in the presence of light,” he told her, the words agonized. “I worry when you leave, there will be no one left to see me.”

Final Thought

I had so much fun reading Enchantra by Kaylie Smith. Between the deadly magical games, the slow-burn romance, and all the chaos Vivi brought to the table, I was fully locked in. This book gave me everything I wanted: high-stakes drama, gorgeous gothic vibes, and characters that kept me entertained from start to finish.

Was it perfect? Not quite. I do wish we got a little more of Ophelia and Blackwell, they were such a power couple in book one, and I missed their energy here. Just a few extra scenes or even a little side drama with them would’ve made my heart very happy 🥲.

That said, the pacing kept me turning pages like crazy, the world-building was top tier, and the aesthetic?? Immaculate. I’m talking masquerade balls, creepy glam settings, and outfits I wanted to screenshot into a Pinterest board.

Rowin and Genevieve’s romance was a messy, slow-burning, emotionally repressed rollercoaster, and I ate it up. Add in the dangerous magical game and the stakes were chef’s kiss.

So yeah, it’s a solid 4-star read from me. I definitely recommend Enchantra if you love dark romantasy, morally gray men who are soft for one person only, and fierce heroines who don’t care about following the rules.

Team Vivi forever. 💅🔥
