Hey friends!🌸
It’s the end of the month of June and somehow we’re already halfway through the year, can you believe it?
I managed to read 4 books and had one DNF in June, despite being in a reading slump for almost two weeks. So honestly, I’m counting it as a win.
I don’t know why, but I’ve been falling into reading slumps a lot this year.
But I’m trying to get through them as quickly as they come.
Also, I found my second 5-star read of the year, so yay for that!
So without further ado, let’s dive into the books I read in June! 💬👇
Caught up by Liz Tomforde ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Summary
Kai
I’m a single dad and starting pitcher for Chicago’s MLB team.
I’m stretched too thin, but I don’t want help raising my son.
Each of his previous nannies only lasted a few weeks before I let them go.
Now, my coach is putting his foot down by hiring the one person I can’t fire—his daughter.
Miller Montgomery is the last woman I should fall for. Too wild, too young, and too unattached.
Chicago is just a quick stop for her. I thought I’d be counting down the days until she left, but summer feels too short when I start thinking about forever.
Miller
As a high-end pastry chef who recently won the most prestigious award in my industry, I’m desperate to prove I deserve it. But with a new title comes new pressure, and I can’t create a fresh and inspiring dessert to save my life.
With only two months to get back on track, I should be focusing in the kitchen, but instead, I let my dad talk me into using my time off to nanny for his star player’s kid.
Kai Rhodes forgot how to have fun, and I’m eager to jog his memory. But when he and his son start to feel like home, I have to remind us both that my time in Chicago ends with the summer.
Besides, I’ve always been a runner, and the last thing I want is to get caught.

Feathers so vicious by Liv Zander : DNF

Summary
More treacherous than war… are the battles within a heart.
Perched between branches and shadows,
We watch, we scheme,
Fighting for a kingdom forgotten and forlorn.
Until we rip her away with our claws,
Our prisoner, our pawn, our plaything.
She’s innocent and pure,
Fragile and helpless…
…but oh so guilty by blood.
She calls us beasts,
Wicked and evil,
Vicious and cruel.
We are all that and worse.
One of us offers her shelter beneath his wings,
Whispering promises of pleasure,
Seeking redemption.
The other longs to shatter her into a million pieces,
Whispering promises of pain,
Seeking revenge.
Caught between our feathers,
She endures our deranged desires,
Our secrets, our lies,
Our twisted plans.
Will she surrender to our darkness,
or fight for a destiny growing ever elusive?
Welcome to the Court of Ravens, little white dove.
I decided to DNF this book at 31% because, basically, the FMC was sexually assaulted three times by the 31% mark, by three different people. And two of them are the main leads of the book?? So I was like, hell no, not for me.
Then I decided to do a bit of research and found out it’s apparently a reverse harem, where the FMC has multiple partners (in this case, two). And yeah… that’s just not my thing.
So yeah, don’t be like me lol, maybe check what a book’s actually about before jumping in.
And seriously, if you do decide to pick this one up, Please look up the trigger warnings first.
I am salvation By Helen Hardt ⭐⭐

Summary
He’s not looking for salvation. She’s not looking for love.
Dragon Locke is a haunted man. Every day is a relentless battle against the demons of his past. A recovering addict, he wears the scars of a history so brutal, he’s convinced it will destroy anyone who dares to get too close.
Diana Steel is everything Dragon doesn’t deserve. She’s strong and beautiful, and the harder he falls for her, the more he fights to push her away. She deserves a life untouched by his sin, and he’s sworn he won’t subject her to that.
When pieces of his history resurface, dangling the promise of something he lost long ago, Dragon knows he must confront what he’s spent years running from. Diana, freshly wounded by the loss of her own dreams, offers to accompany him. He knows it’s reckless, but he can’t deny her…or the solace she represents.
The search spirals into a journey filled with dark secrets. As danger closes in, Dragon must decide if love can truly be his salvation or if, in the end, he will lose everything

Nocticadia By Keri Lake ⭐⭐

Summary
Mortui vivos docent. The dead teach the living.
After watching my mother succumb to a mysterious illness, I promised myself two things. I’d find the cure for what ravaged her. And leave the godforsaken city where she abandoned me.
Four years later, I receive an acceptance letter from Dracadia University, one of the oldest, most prestigious schools in the country. Nestled on a secluded island off the coast of Maine, it’s rumored to be haunted by the souls of the mental patients exiled there centuries before. Those whose bones are said to make up the island’s white sandy shores.
And restless ghosts aren’t even its most daunting peculiarity.
Devryck Bramwell, known on campus as Doctor Death, is a brilliant pathologist in charge of the midnight lab. He’s also my devastatingly handsome professor, who seems to loathe tenacious first-years, like me. Except, his dark and enigmatic gaze tells me all the ways he’d devour me if given the chance, and his stolen kisses burn my lips with forbidden jealousy.
I crave his authority.
He aches for redemption.
Together, we’re toxic. Delicious fodder for the prying eyes hellbent on exhuming the rotted skeletons of our pasts.
For the dead have much to teach, and it’s only a matter of time before Dracadia’s most depraved secret is resurrected.

So these are the 4 books I read in June, and also my second DNF of the year.
Honestly, I think I’m getting better at DNF’ing books 🤣
I still can’t quite believe I found a second 5-star read this year. I was getting desperate at this point lol.
Caught Up honestly caught me by surprise and I loved every second of it!
Please, the love confession?? 😍💓😍💓😍💓
I still get goosebumps every time I think about it.
Unfortunately, I didn’t hit all my goals this month because of the reading slump, but hey—hoping July will be better 🤞.
Let me know in the comments if you’ve read any of the books from my wrap-up, and tell me what your favorite book in June was!
Until next time! 🫶
