First of all, I want to thank NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an early copy of 90 Days to Love by Cassie Verano. I was so excited to receive it!

They say never judge a book by its cover, but I did it again! The cover of this book doesn’t reflect its actual content, which caught me off guard. While I tried to go into it with the right expectations, knowing it falls under the erotica genre, I still found myself a bit disappointed nonetheless.

Anyssa Kelley, a YouTube travel vlogger, is ticking off 30 items to complete before her 30th birthday in 90 days. The most elusive item on her thirty-before-thirty list is to fall in love. Yet, on her quest, she accumulates a string of meaningless affairs and an indiscriminate reputation.

Over dinner with a group of travelers at a resort, she meets vineyard owner Camila Martinez, who resembles her strikingly. The two become fast friends when Anyssa learns about Camila’s tour the exclusive invitation-only resort Belle Baie in Mauritius for work research or return home for her father’s emergency surgery. Piqued by the intrigue of the resort, Anyssa suggests she should go to Mauritius as Camila, promising to complete Camila’s assignment. Armed with a fake ID, Anyssa heads to Belle Baie, ready to research and tick off the last item on her list…finding a forever love.

When she arrives, she meets and clicks with Belle Baie’s owner, wealthy Colombian real estate mogul, Nazário “Nazar” Rivas. As their attraction grows, Nazar is afraid to lose his heart to Anyssa because he trusts no woman after suffering a devastating loss years earlier. But Nazar can’t deny he’s falling for her. Only to him, she is Camila.

To say I was disappointed by this book is an understatement. If you’re looking for a book where the spice is the plot, then 90 Days to Love is for you. But unfortunately, that’s just not my thing. I was hoping for more depth, character development, and a well-rounded story, but instead, the focus was primarily on the steamy scenes, leaving everything else feeling secondary.

With just 90 days left until her 30th birthday, Anyssa Kelley is determined to check off every item on her bucket list, including finding love. But she never expected her journey to take such a wild turn. When she meets Camila Martinez, a woman who could easily pass as her twin, the two hatch a spontaneous plan to switch places for a little while, just for the thrill of it.

What starts as a lighthearted adventure quickly propels Anyssa into a world she never could have imagined. She soon finds herself at an exclusive resort and vineyard, owned by the enigmatic and dangerously handsome Nazário Rivas. From the moment they meet, the air between them crackles with undeniable chemistry. But as their connection deepens, secrets unravel, and Anyssa realizes that stepping into someone else’s life comes with unexpected consequences. With time running out, will she find the love she’s been searching for, or will her daring switch lead to more than she bargained for?

Characters of 90 days to love by Cassie Verano

Anyssa Kelley: To say I didn’t care about Anyssa’s character is honestly putting it nicely. I couldn’t care less about her. From the very first chapter, where she immediately jumps into bed with a stranger, I was completely put off. I just couldn’t connect with her or her story.

And don’t even get me started on her friendships, they didn’t make sense to me at all. Her so-called friends spent most of the book judging her, yet she continued to stick around and let them walk all over her. I can’t stand a character who won’t stand up for themselves, and Anyssa was the perfect example of that.

Nàzar Rivera : Nazário’s character completely ruined the book for me. His entire perspective on women was unbearable, and I could not stand it. That alone made me hate his character and completely disregard his past, his struggles, or any attempt at making him sympathetic.

I hate misogyny in books, and Nazário felt like the epitome of it. So no, I didn’t care about him at all.

Anyssa & Nàzar: The relationship between Anyssa and Nazário was purely lust-driven. While they had a bit of chemistry, the steamy scenes completely overshadowed any real opportunity for emotional depth or proper relationship development. Every time it felt like there could be a meaningful moment between them, it was quickly replaced with yet another spicy scene.

And then, of course, came the third-act breakup, which, on its own, was already frustrating. But what made it even worse? The miscommunication trope. That was my last straw.

Pacing & writing style

The writing in 90 Days to Love was easy to follow, but unfortunately, it felt all over the place at times. The concept itself had potential, but the execution fell flat. The characters lacked depth, making it hard to connect with them, and the plot was predictable, relying heavily on miscommunication as a lazy way to create conflict.

One of the most disappointing aspects was the subplot about Anyssa’s biological father—it felt like it was thrown in just to fill the void left by the lack of depth in the main story. It didn’t add anything substantial to the actual plot or character growth, making it feel more like an afterthought.

And then there’s the title: 90 Days to Love. You’d expect a story about finding love, but instead, it felt like Anyssa’s journey was more about discovering sex and kink rather than actual romance. It just didn’t deliver on what the premise seemed to promise.

The pacing in 90 Days to Love started off quick and engaging, pulling me in during the first half of the book. However, as the story progressed, it slowed down significantly, to the point where it felt a bit disorienting. The shift in pacing made certain parts drag, affecting the flow of the story. That being said, overall, the pacing was decent enough to keep me reading, even if it wasn’t entirely consistent.

Final Thought

Overall, 90 Days to Love had an interesting premise, but the execution fell short for me. The story focused heavily on the spice, leaving the plot, character development, and emotional depth as an afterthought. While some readers might enjoy the book for its steamy content, I personally wanted more from the romance and the characters themselves.

Anyssa’s journey felt more like a sexual exploration rather than a genuine quest for love, which made the title misleading. Nazário’s character didn’t work for me at all, and their relationship felt shallow, built purely on physical attraction. Add to that a frustrating third-act miscommunication and underdeveloped side plots, and I found myself struggling to stay engaged.

That being said, the book’s pacing, while inconsistent, was enough to keep me reading, and the writing was accessible. If you enjoy erotica with a dominant/submissive dynamic and don’t mind minimal character development, this book might be worth checking out, but make sure to review the trigger warnings before diving in.
