I was eagerly anticipating Ana Huang’s King of Sloth this year, being a huge fan of her writing. While it was a good read, it didn’t quite meet my expectations. So far, it’s my least favorite book in the king of sin series.

For those tired of the same old billionaire tropes, Ana Huang consistently finds new ways to keep things interesting.
Sloane & Xavier : I appreciated the slow pace of their romance. It allowed them to truly get to know each other and discover the intricacies of their personalities and the flaws that shaped them. However, the plot was grittier, and I personally didn’t feel a strong connection between the characters. At times, I even lost interest, which was disappointing. I was hoping for a more compelling and emotionally resonant connection between them.
Pacing & writing style
Ana Huang’s writing in King of Sloth is both engaging and accessible, effortlessly drawing readers into Xavier and Sloane’s world. Her narrative blends humor and heartfelt moments, making the story both entertaining and emotionally resonant. Using the dual POV, Huang allows readers to deeply connect with the character’s internal struggles and growth. This narrative choice is particularly effective in a story focused on personal transformation, providing an intimate look at the protagonist’s thoughts and feelings.
Huang’s descriptive language paints vivid pictures of the settings and characters, enhancing the reader’s immersion in the story. Her dialogue is sharp and realistic, capturing the nuances of the characters’ interactions and relationships. Additionally, Huang’s pacing is well-balanced, with a good mix of slower, reflective moments and faster-paced scenes that drive the plot forward.

Final Thought
I’ve been eagerly anticipating this book since it was announced and was excited to finally read it. While I didn’t expect a perfect five-star read, I thought I’d enjoy it. Unfortunately, despite the good plot and potential, the execution fell short. I’m not sure if it’s me, the book, or a reading slump, but I found myself feeling indifferent and bored during the first half.
However, the second half was more engaging. Xavier’s character development was impressive, and he’s such a sweetheart. Some of his lines had me swooning. I also liked Sloane and her sassy comebacks. Unfortunately, I didn’t feel a strong connection between Sloane and Xavier as a couple. Their chemistry wasn’t there for me, and I didn’t root for them.
